This is Wera – the network that will empower female engineers

Together, Womengineer and Ny Teknik strive to create lasting change. By building Wera, we want to strengthen the role of women in technology, innovation and leadership, and thereby contribute to a more inclusive future for the technology sector.

Humanity faces major challenges, and meeting them requires a diversity of ideas and perspectives. Womengineer and Ny Teknik are therefore proud to present Wera, a new professional network that aims to empower and inspire women and non-binary people in the engineering profession. The initiative unites the ambition to increase diversity in technical professions and create a platform where women can grow both professionally and personally.

Despite efforts to promote women's entry into technical professions, the imbalance is still significant. According to statistics from 2023, women only make up 301% of engineering students*, and only 291% of engineering managers in Sweden are women**. This underrepresentation reflects the need for initiatives like Wera.

Wera – A platform for inspiration and community

Wera aims to strengthen the position of women in the technology sector by offering events and forums where professionals can meet, exchange experiences and make new connections. The network wants to create change and offer women support to take the next step in their careers – whether it is stepping into leadership roles or driving new innovations.

Wera's first event will be held at Google's offices in Stockholm on November 7, 2024. This pilot event will focus on gathering ideas from participants to ensure that the network continues to evolve according to the needs and wishes of its members.

A joint initiative for the engineers of the future

Wera is supported by the Womengineer Foundation and Ny Teknik Group. Since 2015, Womengineer has worked to promote diversity in technical education and professions through initiatives such as IGEday, Sweden's largest event to increase diversity in technology. Ny Teknik, Sweden's largest media platform for technology with almost a million digital readers each month, contributes its network and expertise in engineering.

– I am convinced that Ny Teknik's breadth and Womengineer's close relationship with the target group will be a fantastic combination for gender equality in the technology sector, says Womengineer's CEO Marie Ideström.
